In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth there are many different puzzles that invite us to puzzle and usually provide a small reward. We sometimes encounter them very early in the game. From Chapter 2 onwards there are already a few open questions.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: The mysterious Windmill Gear
Strictly speaking, the Windmill Gear that we have to get in side mission 5: Adequate use of wind in the grassland region is the final item in this region.
Get the last order from the clipboard in Kalm and first talk to Broden in the inn. He tells us about his problem, which is why we have to go and pay Mildred a visit.
Mildred is already waiting for us, east of Kalm in the small windmill village. She is a mechanic and wants to get the local windmills running again. However, she can only do this if we help her.
She needs the windmill component in question, which is why we now have to get it into our possession.
Where can I get the Windmill Gear?
Strictly speaking, you get the Windmill Gear from your synthesis chamber in the menu. Open the synthesis and go to the Key Items tab. Here you can make the good piece.
- If this is not yet possible, you must first level up your synthesis level!
To make the windmill component we need these materials:
- Quetzalcoatl Claw x1
- Iron ore x2
- Meadow Titan x1
- Monster Bones x5
The more common mats: iron ore, meadow titanium and monster bones can be found everywhere in the free world. Simply collect the glowing items on the ground. You can find them basically everywhere and you shouldn’t have any problems finding the materials quickly.
Things get more difficult with the Quetzalcoatl claw, which is only available from a very specific monster in the grassland region and surprise surprise: the Quetzalcoatl. So it is not a normal object, but a key object.
Where can I find secret enemy Quetzalcoatl?
The Quetzalcoatl is a creature that is called a “Secret Enemy” in FF7R. Secret enemies only spawn at certain battle locations. They are very rare monsters that are unlocked as you progress through the objectives.
First of all, it is important to locate the local sources of life and determine the location of the secret enemy.
Where can I find Quetzalcoatl? Here on the map you can see where Quetzalcoatl was found. You can find it a little south of Kalm. However, you shouldn’t set off until you’ve unlocked the World Report – Secret: Winged Dragon from Ancient Times.
You will only unlock this world report if Chadley receives enough information about the area. So first search the life sources until Chadley finally releases the mission.
Important: You don’t need to run here beforehand, otherwise you won’t have the opportunity to summon and fight Quetzalcoatl.

To make it a little easier for you, I’m including all the life sources on our map here so that you can see them at a glance. This makes it easy to access and farm all sources of life in order to unlock Quetzalcoatl.
The fight against Quetzalcoatl
If you have now farmed enough life sources, you can run to the location in question and call the Thunderbird.
I hope you prepared well for the fight, because it’s not that easy. He has 20,000 life points. So pack enough healing potions to survive the long fight.
A look at the analysis reveals that the winged creature is vulnerable to ice. Ideally, you should equip several ice materia so that you can hit him at his weak point with several characters.
Watch out for his plasma bolts, which he shoots forward like an arrow. His widespread thunderclaps are also deadly.
In such moments it is worth briefly stopping the attack and concentrating on dodging. And make sure you use ranged attacks, which is quite advisable in this case.
If possible, the summoner materia calls Shiva into battle, continuously attacking him with ice attacks.
Repair Windmill: Complete Mission!
After the fight you will finally get the Quetzalcoatl Talon. Now you can start the synthesis again and produce the windmill component.
Then run back to Mildred and tell her about your heroic deeds. She is delighted and installs the component straight away. The windmills start and yikes! What have we here?
A little surprise: As a thank you, a green materia falls from the mill. This is the “Treat” materia, which you can now collect behind the mill.
