It feels like there is now a subscription for almost everything, as such a model is usually quite lucrative for the companies behind it and generates regular income.
Developer Rockstar Games also launched the paid subscription service GTA+ for GTA Online in March 2022. Members receive exclusive benefits and rewards on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Now, however, there is a price increase that is anything but convenient for players.
GTA+ becomes more expensive
Previously, the various benefits were available for a total of 5.99 euros per month. This monthly amount has now been increased by two euros, bringing the total to $7.99, meaning that players will have to pay 33 percent more to keep their membership active. In the UK, the increase is as much as 40 percent, bringing the price to £6.99.
Rockstar Games does not currently offer any other payment model for GTA+, for example over several months or a whole year.
So far, Rockstar has not given a specific reason for the price increase. However, GTA+ members now also receive games for free.
In September 2023, for example, there was ‘Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’. Last month, there was also “Red Dead Redemption” to look forward to. This year, “Bully: The Round of Honor” and “L.A. Noire” are also set to follow.
And it can be assumed that Rockstar has a few more plans in the pipeline for its own subscription model, especially in relation to the release of GTA 6 next year.
We’ll also go out on a limb and speculate that this won’t be the only price increase for the subscription service.
