The Fallout adaptation on Amazon Prime Video is going like hot butter in a frying pan. The live-action series has been number one in the series charts since its launch on the VoD streaming service. Is Fallout 5 even being developed?
At this point we already have the first piece of good news for you: Yes, “Fallout 5” will one day be in development, it will be produced! The first steps may already have been taken. But that’s it for the good news.
Game Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard has already confirmed in his own words that a Fallout 5 will be 100% produced in 2022 and he even used the specific wording “Fallout 5”. So there’s nothing to shake about here.
When will Fallout 5 be released?
Todd Howard explained to IGN what will happen with Bethesda Game Studios when Starfield is finished. He indicated that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way off. But in the same breath, he confirmed that “Fallout 5” will be the next game BGS develops when The Elder Scrolls 6 is finished. He literally said:
“Yeah, The Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production, and you know, after that we’re going to tackle Fallout 5. Our list is pretty full for a while. But of course we also have a few other projects that we’ll be working on.”
The first ideas of what “Fallout 5” should look like were already available in 2022. However, he did not go into much detail here. He vehemently denied the question of an external development studio, which suggests that Bethesda is developing the game “Fallout 5” completely in-house.
What exactly does “after The Elder Scrolls 6” mean?
But now, of course, I’m wondering when “The Elder Scrolls 6” will be released? When can we expect the next The Elder Scrolls?
Phil Spencer, head of PR at Xbox, explained in 2023 that “The Elder Scrolls 6” could still take some time to produce. At the time, he estimated that it would take at least another five years for the game to see the light of day in the gaming world.
A few dates to remind you what this means:
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim was released on 11. 11. 2011.
A release in 2028 would then be 10 years after the announcement (2018) of “The Elder Scrolls 6”.
“The Elder Scrolls 6” would then come a full 17 years after “The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim”.
Conversely, this means that if Fallout 5 is released many years after TES 6, it will still be half an eternity before the release. In my opinion, a release in 2032 would be quite conceivable.
However, it is also possible that during the development process of TES 6, some of Bethesda Game Studio’s resources will be reallocated to Fallout 5 or that parts of Bethesda Game Studio are already working on Fallout 5.
This makes the year 2032 still very likely, but could also mean a release in 2030.
