In the course of the Hogwarts Legacy adventure, we come to a point where we have to find a mandrake and Venomous Tentacula. But where can we find these funny plant-based contemporaries? And what do I have to look out for?
In this guide, you will learn all about these two special premium plants that will help you fight nasty villains. They are not only necessary in battle, but also for a mission.
Professor Garlick Task 1 – Hogwarts Legacy
With this solution you can successfully complete the Professor Garlick task 1, where you have to do the following:
- Procure and test a Venomous Tentacula.
- Obtain and test a mandrake against multiple opponents simultaneously.
If you have the Venomous Tentacula, you only have to use it against one enemy, whereas you have to use the Mandrakes against several enemies. But where do we actually get these plants?
Finding mandrake – Where can I get it?
The mandrake is a really funny little plant. They shout at everything and everyone around them. That’s why, as a student of magic, you should always be equipped with earplugs. But as annoying as they can be, they are just as helpful.
Where can I find mandrakes? You can easily grow mandrakes yourself. The magical plant grows from mandrake seeds. These can be found in Hogsmeade at Water Plantain & Tuber Leaf Mushroom, they cost 800 gold.

Which pot do I need for mandrakes? If you want to plant mandrakes, a small pot will suffice. You probably already have one anyway, so you don’t need to buy any extra pots.
However, you can buy the pots in Hogsmeade. In the Tome and Scrolls from the Honorable Thomas Brown. If you are still missing pots, you can find the medium and large pots here. The planting table with a large pot costs 1000 gold (important for the Venomous Tentacula).
Find Venemosa Tentacula – Where should I look?
The vicious Venomous Tentacula is no less funny than the Mandrake. It shoots acid at nearby enemies and supports you in battle. Fortunately, it is harmless to you. Provided it is your plant!
Where can I find the Venomous Tentacula? Venomous Tentacula can be bred. To do this, unlock the Room of Requirement and set up a planting table. If you meet all the requirements, you can simply plant them and wait.
If you do not yet meet the requirements, first have a look at the Water Plantain & Tuberous Leaf Mushroom. Here you can buy the seeds of the Venomous Tentacula. The seeds cost 1050 gold.
Which pot do I need for the Venomous Tentacula? Bear in mind that you need a large pot for the Venomous Tentacula. You will therefore need a planting table with at least one large pot. The Venomous Tentacula takes up a little more space in the pot, which is why such a large pot is unfortunately unavoidable.
You can buy the large pot in the magic store Water Plantain & Tuber Leaf Mushroom. The spell instruction: Planting table with large pot costs 1,000 gold. If you want to buy a planting table with two large pots, it will cost you 3,000 gold.

Important: If you don’t want to buy the seeds for these fighting tools because you just want to complete the mission very quickly, there are other ways to do it.
If you only want to use the combat tools for the quest and want to save a little money, you can simply buy them in the Water Plantain & Tuber Leaf Mushroom.
What is the price of Mandrake and Venomous Tentacula?
- Buy mandrake combat tool: 500 gold
- Buy Venomous Tentacula combat tool: 600 gold
So you have the choice: fast and expensive or slow and cheaper in the long run.
Professor Garlick’s task 2
The fun is not over yet, because Professor Garlick has one more task for us.
If we want to unlock the Flipendo spell, then we have to complete Professor Garlick’s task 2. This task follows directly on from the first!
For this we need two of the plants from task 1, a Mandrake and a Venomous tentacula, as well as a piece of Chinese chewing cabbage.
Once you have all of these combat plants, all you have to do is light them all at the same time. So throw one, then into the menu, select the second one and initiate the ignition, again into the menu, equip the last one and then you have passed the first part of the task.
Where can I find Chinese chewing cabbage?
You get the chewing cabbage relatively early in the game. However, if you have already planted all your plants, you will need new ones. You can then buy these from Water Plantain & Death Cap for 300 gold.
Or you can buy the seeds of the Chinese chewing cabbage for 600 gold. From now on you can plant them in your room of wishes. Remember that you need a large planting table for this. It costs 1000 gold, available like before from Thomas Brown.

Also keep in mind that you need to have 10 Moonstones left to place the Large Planting Table in your Room of Requirement.
Where can I find river grass?
You can also grow river grass yourself in the Room of Wishes. To do this you need the river grass seeds for 350 gold, available at the Magic Turnip in Hogsmeade.
River grass is a large plant, which is why you also need a large pot. As mentioned before, you can get this from Thomas Brown in the Tome and Scrolls, Hogsmeade.

The good thing is that you get 5 pieces at once. And if you use fertilizer, you can even increase the yield.
